Women's Track & Field places second at NACC Indoor Championships

KENOSHA, Wis. – It was another successful run at the NACC Indoor Championships for the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team. The Falcons placed second at the meet out of 10 conference teams.

The CUW throwers had an outstanding day, being paced by junior Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.). Tatum took home the individual title in the shot put, with a mark of 11.65 meters and was one of four Falcons to score points in the event. Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) finished in fourth in the shot put, while Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Beth Garncarz (Milwaukee, Wis.) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.

The Falcons also turned in a strong showing in the weight throw with four placing in the top seven. Kassees led the way in that event with a second-place finish (14.24 meters). Tatum was right behind, finishing third, while Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.) and Mary Heinz (Clintonville, Wis.) were sixth and seventh. Heinz added a PR in the event.

CUW also gained a pair of top-six finishes in the pole vault, led by McKenna Daulton (Hudson, Wis.) as she cleared 3.05 for a third-place finish. Alisa Dorothy (Waukesha, Wis.) posted a sixth-place spot after clearing 2.30 meters. Emily Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.) added a second-place finish and an impressive PR in the long jump to round out an impressive set of field events for the Falcons.

On the track, the Falcons had several strong performances, including in the 800-meter run. Cassandra Sprotte (Abbotsford, Wis.) and Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) finished second and third in the event, with times of 2:27.42 and 2:27.48, Rice's time resulting in a PR. Paulina Agnello (Brookfield, Wis.) added an eighth-place finish in the event.

In the mile, CUW had three runners go inside the top five in the mile as Bethany Coop (Mora, Minn.), Agnello and Marya Haegler (West Bend, Wis.) went 3-4-5 in the event. Haegler had a busy day as she added a fifth-place finish in the 5K and an eighth-place finish in the 3K. Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) also competed in the 3K and 5K, turning in finishes of seventh and fourth place.

Mauermann added to her second-place finish in the long jump by finishing sixth in the 400-meter dash and seventh in the 200. Lauren Erickson finished sixth in the 55-meter dash, while Moira Kilgas (Omro, Wis.) and Marissa Krohn (Brookfield, Wis.) went 6-7 in the 55-meter hurdles. Krohn's mark in the event was a PR, while Kilgas posted a PR as well in the 200 Saturday.

The Falcons also gained a pair of top-three finishes in relay events Saturday as the 4X400-meter team of Lauren Dorsey (Green Bay, Wis.), Natalie Bubolz (Beaver Dam, Wis.), Sprotte and Mauermann placed second and the Distance Medley team comprised of Nora Imperl (Greenfield, Wis.), Dorsey, Bubolz and Rice placed third.

Aurora won the NACC Indoor Championships, capturing the title for third straight season. Aurora also swept the major awards, including Talia Sheedlo who was named the Athlete of the Meet.
