The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team opened the 2011 season with fitness testing and their first preseason practice this morning.

The Falcons will cap the first day with another training session in the afternoon, prior to ending the evening with an Amazing Race team bonding activity.

CUW returns six starters from the 2010 season, including All-Northern Athletic Conference First Team honoree Lauren Straehler (junior, Pewaukee, Wis.) and All-NAC Freshman performer Michelle Karsten (sophomore, Waukesha, Wis.). Other key returning players include junior Kelly Bolli (Eagle, Wis.), senior, Renee Hecker (Harrison Township, Mich.), senior Kelly Sippel (Fond du Lac, Wis.), and senior Kelli Wittenberg (Sturtevant, Wis.).

The Falcons annual Blue & White Scrimmage will take place Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at Fitting Field.

The 2011 season will begin with a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 1, as CUW will host UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. at Fitting Field. The contest is the first part of a doubleheader with the men's program that hosts St. Norbert College 30 minutes following the conclusion of the match. There is free admission to all regular season games.
