HOW IT HAPPENED
- Martinson (Milwaukee, Wis.) moved to the main mat to faceoff against Jake Poole (Augustana) and the match was ended nicely for the senior, who used swift moves to win by fall in 1:18 to capture first place in the Millikin Open for the 165 bracket. He won by fall over Kiefer Bangham (Huntingdon) to start off round two and then won by decision over Asher Eichert (Triton) by a 9-4 score. Martinson then won by fall again over Matt King (Huntingdon) to set up his championship match.
- Montbriand (junior, Bartlett, Ill.) wrestled well for the Falcons, as he started off the day with a win by fall over Scott Bauer (Millikin). He then moved into the second and quarterfinal round to go on to win by fall, 1:34 over Clem Martin (Augustana( and winning in a tiebreaker 8-7 over Pierce Ernhardt (Huntingdon). Montbriand ran into trouble when he met up with Poole who won in a sudden victory. The junior finished the day by winning by fall, 4:32 over Ernhardt again for third place in the 165 bracket.
- Sophomore Merrick O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was able to move through the bracket in the 184-weight class before running into Brandon Petit (Truman State) who won by fall, but O'Donnell bounced back by winning over Quentin Moore (Ancilla) by fall 0:29 to take home seventh place.
