ELMHURST, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Wrestling team picked up a big dual meet victory Friday night, defeating the 2013 NCAA Division III Runner-Up Elmhurst College by a 21-18 score.

The Falcons found themselves in an early hole as the Bluejays built a 13-3 lead after five bouts, winning four of the first five. The lone CUW win in the lower weight classes came at 133 pounds where senior Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) wrestled to a 7-2 decision victory over Carter Beebe. Otherwise, Elmhurst used three decisions and one major decision to gain the 10-point lead with five matches remaining.

That's where the Falcons turned things up winning four straight, including a pin from sophomore Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) 2:20 into his match. When Baumgartner and Bobby Schillinger stepped on to the mat for their 184-pound matchup CUW trailed by a 13-12 score, but the Falcons six points from his pin gave the Falcons a 18-13 lead with two bouts to go.

Senior Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) clinched the win for the Falcons at 195 pounds via an 11-4 decision, making the scoreboard read 21-13 in favor of CUW. Elmhurst would pick up a technical fall win at 285 pounds, resulting in the 21-18 final.

CUW also got points at 165 pounds and 174 pounds in the non-conference win. At 165 senior Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) won via medical forfeit, while sophomore Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) gained a key 6-5 decision win that pulled CUW within one point after the 174-pound matchup.

The win moved the Falcons to 3-1 in duals this season, as they also gained victories over MSOE and UW-Stevens Point.

CUW is off until next Thursday night when it visits North Central for another non-conference dual meet. Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
