Wrestling wins pair of duals at Whitewater Border Brawl

WHITEWATER, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin won a pair of duals on Saturday at the UW-Whitewater Border Brawl. The Falcons defeated UW-Eau Claire, 30-17, before taking down Manchester College, 24-12, inside Kachel Gymnasium.

The Falcons won five bouts by technical fall and two by major decision to snap a two-game dual match skid to start the day. CUW is now 3-6 this season in duals.

Three wrestlers won all of their duals on Saturday, with junior Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) and senior Leonard Kuspa (Oak Forest, Ill.) highlighting the Falcons lineup.

Kenealy down his first opponent by major decision, 13-0, before winning by decision, 7-3. He then won by decision, 3-1, against UW-O. With the three victories he moves his overall record to 22-9 and 6-2 in duals.

Kuspa, who returned from a knee injury, won his first two bouts by decision (10-6, 7-6) before earning a major decision victory, 9-0.

Also performing well were junior Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) who won a bout by major decision, 14-2, and technical fall, 19-1. Senior Marcus Lubner (Fredonia, Wis.) picked up two wins by technical fall (18-3, 21-4), while sophomore Pierce Holtfreter (Las Vegas, Nev.) took down his UW-EC opponent by technical fall, 16-1.

CUW returns to the mat for the two-day Pete Wilson Wheaton College Invitational starting on Friday, Jan. 31.
