Falcons advance to MWLC Championship game

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin punched its ticket to the MWLC Championship game following a 13-2 victory over Benedictine at Fitting Field. The Falcons had seven different players score in win and three of them had multiple goals.

HOW IT HAPPENEND
- Freshman Lauren Paquin (Waukesha, Wis.) got the Falcons on the board only 59 seconds into the game off a free-position shot. She then notched her second goal of the game 36 seconds later giving CUW an early 2-0 lead into Friday's MWLC semi-final match-up.
- The Falcons defense was a key contributor in the win as they caused 19 turnovers, four of which were caused by senior Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.), and picked up 27 ground balls compared to Benedictine who only forced eight turnovers and gathered eight groundballs. Senior Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) led all players with seven ground balls on the afternoon.
- Concordia would build a 7-0 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Paquin added two more goals while Boehlke, Victoria Dahl (Stillwater, Minn.), and Caitlin Henry (Lansing, Ill.) each added a first half goal of their own. Benedictine would score their only two goals of the game with just under six minutes remaining in the first half.
- Coming out of halftime, Boehlke would add to the Falcons lead as she scored her second goal of the game 45 seconds into the final half. CUW would add five more goals in the final 30 minutes of play and advance to Saturday's MWLC Championship game.
- Junior goalkeeper Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) had a very impressive game in goal as she came away with five saves and only allowed a pair of goals.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW advances to MWLC Championship game for the second consecutive season.
- The two goals allowed by the Falcons is the third lowest allowed this season by the team.
- Paquin has now scored five or more goals in four games this season.

THE OPPOSITION
- Becca Gullett led Benedictine with one goal, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
- Samantha Link also added a goal for the Eagles.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons will play in the MWLC Championship game on Saturday at 4 pm at Fitting Field. They will take on the winner of Augsburg and Aurora.
