ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Concordia University Wisconsin team used two late second period goals to skate past Saint Benedict, 3-1, in a non-conference road game Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Falcons to 1-1 on the season in advance of their home opener next weekend.

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 3, Saint Benedict 1
- Location: Dave Torrey Arena – St. Cloud, Minnesota
- Records: CUW 1-1; Saint Benedict 0-2

- Each team scored in the first period and the 1-1 score held until the 16:46 mark of the second stanza. That's when Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) broke the tie with the game-winning score, assisted by Amanda Curtin (Houston, Texas) and Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario).

- Just 30 seconds later, Kennedy lit the lamp to extend the Falcons lead to 3-1. Freshman Vyctoria Smith (Fort Myers, Fla.) picked up her first career collegiate point in assisting on the play, while Jossa Danis added an assist as well.

- It was Dannis (Brandon, Manitoba) who started the scoring Saturday, striking midway through the first period for her first goal of the season. Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ontario) and Maddie Savage (Grand Rapids, Mich.) assisted on the Danis score.

- Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) made 26 saves in picking up the win in her first start of the season. Thomson stopped all 21 shots she faced over the final two periods.

- The only shot to get past Thomson on Saturday came with 1:31 left in the opening stanza. Kennedy Hageness had the score for the Blazers.

- The Falcons now lead the all-time series against the Blazers, 5-4. Previously, the team's met in four two-game weekend series and split all four of those previous series.

- CUW will return to Wisconsin and play its 2017-18 home opener next weekend with a two-game series against Lake Forest. The opener is set for Friday, November 3 at 7 p.m.
