Heckendorf, Holman receive NCHA honors

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Senior Emily Heckendorf had a record-setting season for the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team. On Monday, Heckendorf was recognized for her outstanding year as she was named to the 2014-15 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association All-Conference Team.

Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) wasn't the only Falcon to earn recognition from the league, as freshman Lexi Holman was named to the All-Freshmen Team. Holman (Cold Spring, Minn.) becomes the second player in as many years to earn All-Freshmen recognition as Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) was honored last season.

Heckendorf had quite the finish to her impressive career as she scored 27 points this season, including leading the Falcons to their first ever appearance in the Slaats Cup Finals. The senior forward scored 17 goals, which is a new CUW single season record.

Heckendorf also made a climb up the career points list. The junior finished with 72 career points, third most in program history. She posted a nine-game point streak which lasted from January 30 through the NCHA Semifinal win. Heckendorf also has the career record for most multiple goal games with eight, including her first career hat trick at Marian on February 13.

The senior is the fourth player to earn First Team honors for the Falcons and the last since forward Sarah Luberda did so in 2010-11. Lea Jondal (2009-10) and Bradi Jonasson (2008-09) also earned All-NCHA honors in their careers.

Holman becomes the third player in CUW history to score All-Freshmen accolades joining Metanova last year and Heckendorf from the 2011-12 season. Holman finished with nine points this season, scoring six goals and adding three assists while playing in all 28 games.

Holman recorded six of her nine points during NCHA play this year, including five goals. She had three points over a five-game stretch late in the year, including goals in back-to-back contests against Marian on February 13-14.

Nina Waidacher of St. Scholastica was named the NCHA Player of the Year, while St. Norbert goaltender Leigh Grall was honored as the Freshman of the Year. Chad Davis of Adrian was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year by his peers.
