Falcons suffer second consecutive shutout to No. 8/9 UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- No. 8/9 UW-Superior shutout Concordia University Wisconsin for the second-straight matchup, scoring three goals in the final stanza to win 5-0 at the Siinto S. Wessman Arena Saturday afternoon in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.

The Falcons were outshot by the Yellowjackets 36-13 this afternoon and 69-32 overall in the NCHA series, taking home their second sweep of the season. CUW (0-7-2, 0-5-2 NCHA) failed to convert on four power-play opportunities, including two in the second frame that proved to be costly. During the two-game road trip against UW-S, the Falcons went 0-for-9 on power-play opportunities.

UW-S (6-3-0, 4-2-0 NCHA) tallied their first goal on a shot by sophomore forward Kiara De Kezel, assisted by Hayley Epema and Bailey Lane, to gain the early lead. After four penalties in a row during the second frame, sophomore forward Dani Schultz notched an unassisted goal with two minutes left to play in the stanza.

As the final period progressed, Shultz scored her second-successive goal of the game, breaking the game wide open while creating a deficit too large to overcome for the Falcons. Hayley Epema recorded three assists in the matchup for the Yellowjackets.

Falcons sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Evans (Fairbanks, Alaska) recorded 31 saves in the loss, while Shanley Peterson made 13 saves.

Next up for the Falcons is a two-game series at Finlandia University starting on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The puck is set to drop 7 p.m. (EST).
