Softball drops two at Aurora

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team dropped a pair of NACC games against Aurora Sunday. The Falcons, who were the home team on the scoreboard, were playing at Aurora due to unplayable field conditions at their home park. CUW struggled to get the bats going in the doubleheader, falling 4-0 and 4-2.

- Game one was a pitchers duel between Molly O'Connell (New London, Wis.) and the Spartans Steph Renner. The game was scoreless until Aurora plated the first run in the top of the sixth inning, an unearned run against O'Connell. The Spartans would add three in the seventh, making the final 4-0.

- The Falcons couldn't solve Renner in the opener, collecting just four hits. Allison Peters (Elk Grove, Ill.), Jamie Reiser (Ingleside, Ill.), Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.), and Emma Schimberg (Random Lake, Wis.) recorded singles for the Falcons.

- O'Connell threw 6.2 solid innings for the Falcons, surrendering four runs, just two earned. Nicole Lewis (Manhattan, Ill.) came on for the final out in the seventh.

- Aurora didn't wait to score in game two, plating a run in the first and three more in the third in building a 4-0 lead. The Falcons finally got the bats going in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs. Reiser singled in Peters to get the Falcons on the board and Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.) scored on an RBI groundout to make it 4-2.

- Jenna Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Lewis pitched in game two for the Falcons with Pozezinski getting the start. She pitched the first three frames and also the final inning, while Lewis tossed three scoreless frames for CUW.

- Reiser paced CUW with two hits and Pozezinski doubled, the lone extra-base hit for the Falcons for the day. CUW finished the game with seven hits, the same total as the Spartans.

- Hannah Tomasko went the distance in gaining the win for Aurora. She struck out five batters and gave up two earned runs in her sixth win of the season.

- The Falcons will visit Lakeland for a NACC doubleheader Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
