STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team competed at the Pointer Invite this weekend, finishing in fifth place. It was another weekend full of PRs for the Falcons as they are hitting their stride in the indoor season.
The 5,000-meter was a strong event for the Falcons Saturday as they placed four runners in the top seven, led by junior Christopher Biesboer (Elmhurst, Ill.). Biesboer ran a personal-best time of 16:26.97, placing fourth. He is also ranked fourth in the NACC in the event. Following him was senior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) who ran a PR time of 16:31.08, placing fifth and also ranking him fifth in the NACC.
The next two Falcons to cross the finish line in the 5K were freshman Brennan Linse (Jefferson, Wis.) and sophomore Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.). Both runners posted PR times, Linse running a 16:34.47, placing sixth and Taylor finishing in seventh with a 16:41.76. Linse now ranks sixth in the NACC in the event, while Taylor has the ninth fastest time in the conference.
The Falcons also gained a few PRs in the 800-meter run, led by sophomore Brandon Goesch (Germantown, Wis.). Goesch posted a time of 2:02.24 and now ranks seventh in the NACC in the event. Freshman Nathan Hasenstein (Sheboygan, Wis.) ran the 800 for the second time this season and improved his time by 10 seconds with a 2:08.07. Junior Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.) also gained a PR in the event, running a 2:19.18.
In the 200-meter dash, freshman Jake Roy (Appleton, Wis.) had a strong performance of 23.83, ranking fifth in the NACC now. Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) ran a 24.20 in the 200-meter dash for a PR, while Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) posted a PR in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.37 seconds.
Pham also posted a new PR in the pole vault, clearing 3.72 meters, which now ranks seventh in the NACC. His teammate, senior Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) also cleared 3.72 meters in the event.
Senior Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) had another strong day in his throwing events, finishing inside the top seven in both the shot put and weight throw. In the weight throw, Faber placed third in a very strong field, tossing 16.67 meters. He added a seventh-place finish in the shot put, tossing 13.83 meters.
CUW will be back in action next Saturday at the UW-Platteville Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The Falcons have two meets to go before the NACC Indoor Championships, scheduled for Saturday, February 28.
