Men's Track & Field has strong showing at UW-Milwaukee meet

MILWAUKEE - The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team stayed close to home this weekend at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Tune-Up on Saturday. The Falcons posted had an impressive 13 personal records in their final meet before the indoor conference championships next weekend.

CUW finished third, just missing second place by one point behind UWM and MSOE This meet was exactly what the Falcons needed right before the NACC Championships. As the title suggests, it was the perfect Tune-Up meet which helped the team improve heading into next weekend.

Senior Martin Hinze (Bourbonnais, Ill.) had one of the best performances of the meet, and his best time ever in the mile with 4:19.75. Hinze hung with the UW-Milwaukee racers for the first few laps, then began passing them one by one until the last lap where he pulled away for first place by two seconds. He ranks tops in the NACC in the event heading into next weekend. Junior Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.) also competed in the race with a time of 4:36.59 along with freshman Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn. -4:43.64 - PR).

CUW posted several outstanding times in the 800-meter run as well. Sophomore Mike Prue (Kenosha, Wis.) led the way with a time of 2:01.24 for second place, followed by personal bests by sophomore Damon Nick (Slinger, Wis. -2:05.19) in eighth and freshman Brandon Goesch in ninth (Germantown, Wis. - 2:06.04).

Sophomore Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a phenomenal day as he led CUW in the field events. Pham started out the day with a PR in the long jump by nearly a half foot. His jump of 6.21 meters earned him third place and he carried that positive energy over to pole vault where he cleared 3.65 meters, again, a PR of over six inches. He pushed junior Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) to perform better in the event, where Lehr hit his season best of 3.95 meters. Lehr and Pham took first and second in the event. Other outstanding personal bests this weekend included junior Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) in the shot put (13.87 meters), sophomore Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.) in the triple jump (11.52 meters) and 400-meter dash (54.74), freshman Dominick Hansen (Pound, Wis.) in 60-meter hurdles (9.37) and freshman Vincent Walker (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the 60-meter dash (7.63).

The NACC Indoor Championships will be held next weekend at Carthage College. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
