Men's Track & Field finishes fourth at conference meet

KENOSHA, Wis. - It was a tough day of competition at the Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Championships for the Concordia University Wisconsin men's track & field team. Although there were a large amount of great performances, the Falcons battled hard but didn't come out with the championship this time as they took fourth place.

There were several great performances in the field events. To start off the day, sophomore Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) broke the school record in the pole vault and hit a PR with a vault of 4.25m (13' 11.25"), scoring third place. Freshman Tyler White (Milwaukee, Wis.) also hit two big PRs winning the long jump with 7.01m (23') and triple jump of 13.86m (45' 5.75"). White won double titles in the conference, earning Co-Freshman of the Year honors and winning the Field Athlete of the Year while moving up to top 40 in the nation in triple jump.

CUW throwers had another great day with huge PRs. In the weight throw sophomore Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) hit a PR toss of 14.86 meters, coming in fourth place and setting a new school record. Jordan Watson (Del Valle, Texas) also threw a PR, over 1.5 meters further than his previous best with a toss of 13.37 meters, earning fifth place, while Burke Dupuis (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) also had a PR in the event. In the shot put, Frank Jesse Long (Elwood, Ill.) threw a huge PR of 14.48 meters and netted a first place finish in the event.

On the track, junior Martin Hinze (Bourbonnais, Ill.) scored big for the Falcons, winning the mile, coming in second in the 3000m and 7th in the 800. In the sprints, John Balsman (Rockford, Ill.), Nick Simich (Bartlett, Ill.) and Dylan Krivoshein (Cedarburg, Wis.) all scored points in the 55-meter dash and hitting huge PRs in the race with times of 6.68, 6.68 and 6.69, respectively. Balsman broke the 23 second mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.86 seconds, while coming in third place. Simich also ran strong in the 200, also hitting a PR time of 23.04 and scoring a fourth place finish. Freshman Mike Prue (Kenosha, Wis.) finished third for the team with his best time of the year in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.30. Other great performances and PRs on the track included Troy Anderson (Burlington, Wis.) in the 55, Jacob Schwark (Fraser, Mich.) in the 55-meter hurdles, freshmen Anthony Moro (Bayside, Wis.) and Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the 200, sophomores Chris Biesboer (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.), and freshmen Alex Rosenau (Van Dyne, Wis.) and Johann Hink (Cedarburg, Wis.) in the 5000.

Next weekend a handful of athletes will compete at one of the last chance meets for an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Tournament. CUW is scheduled to compete Friday at Carthage College and Saturday at UW-Stevens Point.
