Men's Tennis cruises to victory over Hartwick College

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's tennis team earned its first win on its spring trip with an 8-1 rout over Hartwick College Wednesday afternoon.

The Falcons were dominant in singles play as they took all six matches, four in straight sets. Junior Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) rolled a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while junior Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.) followed suit at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Senior Taylor Shaffer (Stoughton, Wis.) netted a 7-6 (10-8) win at No. 3 singles for the Falcons and Antoine Leon rallied for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win in the No. 4 singles spot. Also winning for CUW was junior Tanner Hahn (Reedsburg, Wis.), who gained a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, and junior Ryan Buffamonte (Kenosha, Wis.), who won 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7-3) in the No. 6 spot.

CUW also took two out of three doubles matches Tuesday to earn the 8-1 victory. Johnson and Leon partnered at No. 2 doubles for a 8-2 win, while junior Garrett Wells (Aurora, Ill.) and Buffamonte rolled to a 8-3 win at the No. 3 position.

CUW (3-6) will return to the court tomorrow when they take on Colby College at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
