LISLE, Ill. – Benedictine University scored at the 32:05 mark to edge the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play Saturday evening. The Falcons dropped to 1-2-0 in NACC play with the 1-0 setback.
The one-goal setback continues a tough-luck season for the Falcons. CUW has dropped eight contests, five of those by just one goal. Four of the five losses have come in overtime matches, but CUW has proved it can compete with the top of the conference as the Eagles entered the match unbeaten in NACC play.
Ante Markotic scored the game-winner for Benedictine, coming off an assist from Nick Kapetanos. It was the seventh goal of the season for Markotic, who finished with two shots in the match.
CUW finished the contest with a 10-7 edge in shots, including a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Unfortunately for the Falcons, Steve Mack continued his strong play for the Eagles, making six saves in picking up the win. Senior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) was also strong for the Falcons, stopping four shots.
Junior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) posted a match-best four shots, three of those on goal, for CUW. Junior David Kulberg (Osseo, Minn.) added three shots for the Falcons, while Santiago Beltran recorded a team-best three for the Eagles.
Fouls were fairly even in the matchup, CUW being called for 16 and Benedictine for 19. The Eagles had two yellow cards, while the Falcons were carded one time.
CUW (3-8-1, 1-2-0) will return home for a pair of NACC matches at Fitting Field next week. The Falcons will welcome Rockford University Tuesday afternoon for a contest scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
