GALESBURG, Ill. – Overtime matches have proved to be unfortunate for the Concordia University Men's Soccer team this season. The Falcons dropped their third overtime match of the season, falling 2-1 against Knox College in non-conference play Sunday afternoon.
Knox scored at the 97:43 mark of Sunday's match, stunning the Falcons. It was Nathaniel Logie who scored off a corner kick from Andy Van Buskirk to give the Prairie Fire the one-goal win. CUW also has overtime defeats against St. Norbert and Elmhurst this season, both of those coming in double OT.
Knox held a 9-7 edge in shots as neither team had many opportunities to score. Each squad finished with four shots on goal, as Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.), Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.), Luis Loya (Bolingbrook Ill.) and Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) all fired shots on goal for the Falcons.
Senior Eric Vogel (Itasca, Ill.) and junior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) split the goalkeeper duties. Each keeper allowed one goal as Brew finished with two saves in 23:27 of action. Sean Dockrell made four saves to earn the win for Knox.
The Falcons built a 1-0 lead at the 28:22 mark on an own goal of a Knox defender. That lead would remain until late in the second half as Knox scored with 10:16 remaining to tie the score. Terence Lau scored unassisted for KC, making the score 1-1.
CUW (2-5-0) will return to the pitch in its NACC opener next Saturday against Dominican University. The Falcons and Stars will be playing in the second part of a women's-men's doubleheader at Fitting Field, with the men's match scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
