Loftus records top-ten finish to pace Men's Golf at MSOE Invitational

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – Junior Mike Loftus fired a two-round 151, tying for an eighth-place finish as he paced the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Golf team at the MSOE Invitational. The 36-hole event was held Sunday and Monday at the Grand Geneva Golf Course.

Loftus opened tournament play with a 74 (+3) on Sunday, as he and the Falcons were in third place after 18 holes. CUW was the top-finishing NACC school after one day's worth of competition, firing a 316, one stroke ahead of Edgewood College (317). CUW finished in fifth-place at the 13-team meet.

On Monday, the Eagles fired the lowest round of the day (294) to finish ahead of CUW. Still, the Falcons carded a 315 as a team, tying its low round of the season. CUW also recorded a 315 at the Benedictine Fall Invitational on September 21st.

Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) followed his 74 with a 77 for a two-round 151. His two days marked the two best rounds of the 2014 season.

Freshman Kyle Rebholz (West Bend, Wis.) was the Falcons top finisher on Monday, carding a career-best 76. He opened the tournament with an 83, finishing with a 159 over the two days. Junior Bill Jones (New Holstein, Wis.) fired a 79 on Monday, one day after recording an 82 for a 36-hole score of 161.

Senior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) totaled 162 over the two days, including a 78 on Sunday. Sophomore Oliver Sadiq (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) turned in rounds of 82 and 83, respectively.

Central College took home the team title after firing a 590. Central had the low round of the opening day (293) and followed that up with a 297, easily outdistancing runner-up Carthage College. Edgewood finished in third, while Carroll University placed just ahead of CUW. Desmond Stoll of Central posted back-to-back 72s for a first-place finish, defeating three players by one stroke.

CUW is off until next Monday when they open up play at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships, hosted at Whistling Straits Golf Course. The Falcons will play at Whistling Straits on Monday and Tuesday, while the final two rounds of the NACC Championships are held during the spring season.
