Falcons split with Cougars

April 26, 2009

Game Two Concordia 10 CU- Chicago 9

The game one defeat (see below) made Sunday's second contest absolutely critical for CUW to stay in the NAC title picture. Once again the Falcons built a significant advantage, but this time they held on despite a nerve-wracking final two innings.

Val Keiper's club was sailing along, up 10-3 behind a game-long 14 hit barrage as Matt Schilter and Adam Martz led the way with 3 safeties each.

The Cougars came back with 4 in the eighth against winner Trent Duckett, however, and had CUW on the ropes after plating two more in the ninth. The potential winning runs were on second and third for CU-C before game one starter Derrick Pankow came on to get the final out.

CUW is now 11-4 in the league, one half game behind the Cougars.

Game One CU- Chicago 8 Concordia 7

Sunday's first game was a gut-wrenching killer as CUW took a 6- 3 lead into the bottom of the 7th before the host Cougars exploded for five runs to turn things around.

The Falcons played errorless baseball and got home runs from Kyle Barth and Dan Shea before Concordia- Chicago, 23-12 overall, rallied against undefeated Falcon ace Derrick Pankow and reliever Alex Tomter (2-5). Kevin Courvoisier, Adam Martz, and Barth had two hits apiece for CUW.
