Women's Cross Country finishes third at NACC Championships

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – Freshmen Jennifer Goeman and Ashley Scheele earned All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference honors as they helped lead the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Cross Country team to a third-place finish at the NACC Championships. The Falcons finished with 95 team points in the meet held at Greenfield Park.

Goeman (Florence, Wis.) and Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) placed 14th and 15th, respectively as they nabbed the final two spots on the All-Conference team. Goeman completed the 6K course in a personal-best time of 24:35.1, while Scheel came in 11 seconds later, running a 24:46.7.

Senior Kelsey Wagner (Kenosha, Wis.) was the third Falcon to complete the course Saturday, running a 25:10.1 and placing 17th. Sophomore Jolyn Achs (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshman Lindsey Fratzke (Winona, Minn.) rounded out the scoring lineup for CUW, finishing the race in times of 25:50.0 and 26:13.7, respectively.

Senior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis.) placed 33rd in the 109-competitor field as she ran a 26:26.5. The next two Falcon runners each posted personal best times, beginning with freshman Meagan Rummage. Rummage knocked 31 seconds off her previous best as she finished in 26:38.7 on the soft and slow course due to rainy conditions during the week. Junior Sarah Volkert (Rockford, Ill.) also gained a personal best on Saturday, completing the race in 26:57.4. The final two Falcon runners were sophomore Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) and junior Jessica Hennig (Springfield, Ill.)

Head Coach Russ DeLap was proud of the way the Falcons competed, but was hoping for a little better finish at the conference meet. Injuries and illnesses certainly hurt the team in the stretch run.

Aurora won the team title as they finished with six runners who earned all-conference honors, including five in the top eight. Edgewood finished just ahead of CUW, compiling 92 points. Emily Paull of AU took home individual honors, finishing the race in 22:49.2. She was also named NACC Runner of the Year.

CUW will compete in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional two weeks from today at Saukie Golf Course. The meet will be hosted by Augustana College.
