PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – A pair of top-ten finishes by freshmen Ashley Scheele and Jennifer Goeman paced the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Cross Country team at the Pioneer Invite, hosted by UW-Platteville, Saturday.
Scheele (Kohler, Wis.) was the top-finishing Falcon as she completed the 6K-course in a time of 24:49.2, which earned her an eighth-place finish in the 41-competitor field. Goeman was the next runner to cross the line as she came in ninth place with a time of 25:18.6.
Senior Kelsey Wagner (Kenosha, Wis.) finished with her best time of the season as she was the third CUW runner, completing the race in a time of 25:35.7. Sophomore Jolyn Achs (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshman Lindsey Fratzke (Winona, Minn.) rounded out the scoring lineup, finishing with times of 26:06.7 and 26:12.8, respectively. The 26:12.8 was a personal-best for Fratzke.
Senior Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis.) ran her best time of the season as she clocked in at 26:16.5. Next up for CUW was sophomore Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) as she completed the course in 27:37.5 and was followed by freshman Meagan Rummage (Turkey) who ran a 28:04.4. Senior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis. – 28:07.8), freshman Elizabeth Frick (Eagan, Minn. – 29:24.5) and junior Brittney Duewell (Pewaukee, Wis. – 31:47.7) were the final three Falcon runners Saturday.
UW-Platteville finished first as the accumulated 33 points after having four runners finish in the top 10. Danielle Kunkel of UWP placed first with a time of 22:07.9, finishing over a minute and a half in front of the next closest runner.
CUW will compete next weekend when it hosts the Wisconsin Private College Championships. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin.
