Women's Cross Country runs dual versus MBBC to open season

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's cross country team began its season with a dual meet against Maranatha Baptist Bible College Saturday afternoon. The team's ran a two-mile course on the campus of CUW.

The women finished with five of the top six finishers and defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible by a score of 16-82.

The Falcons were paced by sophomore Larissa Schlitz (DeForest, Wis.) and freshman Elizabeth Frick (Eagan, Minn.) as both runners finished the course in 12:36. Freshman Jennifer Goeman (Florence, Wis.) was next in line for CUW 12:12 and coming in right behind her was freshman Ashley Scheele (Kohler, Wis. - 12:12). Also competing for CUW was senior Maxine Blohowiak (Green Bay, Wis. - 13:19), junior Hannah Erl (13:26), sophomore Jolyn Achs (Gurnee, Ill. - 13:27), junior Sarah Volkert (Rockford, Ill. - 13:31), senior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis. - 13:39), freshman Meagan Rummage (Turkey - 13:56), sophomore Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich. - 14:01), sophomore Ashley Birenbaum (Plymouth, Wis. - 14:06), junior Jessica Hennig (Springfield, Ill. - 14:37), senior Hailey Ring (Manitowoc, Wis. - 14:43) and junior Brittany Duewell (Pewaukee, Wis. - 16:09.)

"There were a lot of very excellent performances today for an early season hard effort but there is lots of work that needs to be done," said Falcons head coach Russ DeLap. "Right now we are pretty healthy and in a week from now I can see having 100% of both teams running close to full capacity which never happens. I will keep praying that everyone stays healthy. If they do we will have a team that will compete and both (Men and Women) teams have many who can compete for the top 7 places this year which is going to be fun to watch."

Next up for the Falcons is the CUW Falcon Invite, which is scheduled for September 14th. The men are scheduled to race at 12:00 p.m., which follows the women's race at 11:00 a.m.
