SEASON PREVIEW: Cross Country teams "reload"

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia University Wisconsin Cross Country head coach Russ DeLap just keeps "reloading" and his resume of men's and women's cross country Northern Athletics Conference continues to grow.

DeLap lists his key 2012 returnees on the men's side as All-NAC First Team performers Martin Hinze (junior, Bourbonnais, Ill.) sophomore Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.) and junior Jordan Guenther (Horicon, Wis.), along with All-NAC Honorable Mention honoree Kevin Gries (senior, Cleveland, Wis.).  DeLap's men's teams have won back-to-back crowns.

On the women's side All–NAC performers Bethany Doerr (senior, Chilton, Wis.), sophomore Samantha Nelson (Frederic, Wis.) and junior Kelsey Wagner (Kenosha, Wis.) are back, in addition to All-NAC Honorable Mention honoree Morgan Steffens (sophomore, Jackson, Wis.), sophomore Ashley Lyons (Brussels, Wis.), junior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis.) and sophmore Sara Reyna (Murietta, Cal.).  DeLap's female harriers have won the past three NAC titles.

"We have added 22 freshman runners and I think there are few who will already contribute to the success of our season their first year," DeLap said. "It will be interesting to see how all the summer training translates this season for all the runners."

The NAC cross country programs are growing and league teams are getting more competitive each year. We have the nucleus to compete for another NAC championship, but there are several schools in our conference that will vie for the crown. Each year it seems like the NAC Championships become more hotly contested and we will have to be at our very best to have a chance to win. A championship is never given to you so we will have to work hard to try to make it happen another year. We have a great group of returning runners and a lot of incoming runners who I am really excited to coach."

This year CUW will host  a 20-team invitational, as well as hosting the NAC Championships.
