OSHKSOH, Wis. – For the second consecutive day the Concordia University Wisconsin Volleyball team fell in a pair of non-conference matches at the Pizza Hut Classic hosted by UW-Oshkosh. The Falcons were swept by St. Norbert College and UW-Stevens Point, both by 3-0 scores.
The Green Knights took the match by scores of 16-25, 21-25, 21-25, while the Pointers won by scores of 14-25, 15-25, 13-25.
CUW struggled to get anything going on Saturday as they hit .096 against the Green Knights and -.014 versus the Pointers. The Falcons were better on defense as they had eight solo blocks and two block assists against SNC, while recording five solos and 10 block assists versus UW-SP.
Junior Hannah Griffiths (Antigo, Wis.) recorded 14 kills in the two matches as she led the team in that stat category in each match. Freshman Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) dished out 26 assists on the day, finishing with double-digit totals in each match.
SNC 3, CUW 0
The Green Knights opened with a 25-16 victory in set one before taking sets two and three by identical 25-21 scores. St. Norbert hit .264 during the match, including .387 in the opening set as they were paced by Breanne Brocker who tallied a team-best nine kills.
Griffiths finished with a match-high 10 kills while posting a .320 attack percentage against SNC. She added 14 digs to finish with a double-double, while Klotz and junior Carley Valentine (De Pere, Wis.) recorded 16 and 13 assists, respectively.
The Falcons also got eight solo blocks against SNC with Valentine and sophomore Kelsa Rubeck (Eau Claire, Wis.) each recording two. Rubeck also tallied seven kills and sophomore Kelsey Paramore (Tomahawk, Wis.) added 12 digs in the opening match.
UW-SP 3, CUW 0
The Falcons were pitted against 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifier UW-SP in their second match of the afternoon. The Pointers swept that match by scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13 as they finished the weekend 4-0.
Klotz recorded 10 assists for the Falcons in the loss, while Griffiths posted a team-best four kills. Junior Britta Duchow (Potter, Wis.) recorded three solo blocks and added one block assists for CUW.
The Pointers got 13 kills from Emma Brunkhorst and 32 assists from the Pizza Hut Classic MVP Alexis Hartman. UWSP posted a .258 attack percentage compared to a -.014 for the Falcons.
CUW will return to action Wednesday when they host MSOE in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at the R. John Buuck Field House. CUW is 2-0 in matches at home this season and play is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Live audio, stats and video will be available from CUWFalcons.com.
