Women's Track & Field places third at Beloit Relays

BELOIT, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team placed third at the Beloit Relays this past weekend. The meet was the final one for the Falcons before the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championships, scheduled for next weekend.

St. Ambrose won the meet, while Carroll University came in second place. The Falcons totaled 104 points for their third-place finish.

Junior Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) set a new personal mark in the shot put as she recorded a throw of 11.15 meters. Kassees finished third in the event and now ranks third in the NACC as well.

The Falcons had several other PRs over the weekend, many of those coming in the throwing events. Junior Mary Heinz (Cedarburg, Wis.) set new personal bests in the shot put and discus. Heinz recorded marks of 29.9 and 9.81 meters, respectively.

Sophomore Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) added a PR in the hammer throw, besting her previous mark by five meters with a throw of 34.80 meters. Freshman Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) gained a PR in the discus throw, tossing 29.37 meters. Tatum also threw 11.71 meters in the shot put, ranking her second in the NACC.

On the track the CUW 4X200-meter relay team broke the old meet record with a time of 1:50.24. The Falcons team consisted of Jessica Hennig (Springfield, Ill.), Colleen Sauvey (De Pere, Wis.), Kristin Sitte (Greenfield, Wis.) and Emily Mauermann (Janesville, Wis.). The foursome ran into a difficult field that saw four teams break the old meet mark as CUW finished fourth in the event. Mauermann also broke an old meet record in the 400 (1:00.41) and finished third in that race.

On the track CUW had two set new PRs in the 1,500-meter run. Juniors Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis.) and Sarah Volkert (Rockford, Ill.) ran times of 5:11.4 and 5:23.4, respectively. Sophomore Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) added a PR in the 800-meter run (2:36.1). Sophomore Marisa Krohn (Brookfield, Wis.) continued her improvement in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.98.

The NACC Outdoor Championships will be next weekend on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3. The meet will be hosted by Benedictine University.
