LISLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Track & Field team in the Eagle Invitational over the weekend, hosted by Benedictine University.
The Falcons finished 10th as a team and had several strong performances at the meet. Leading the way was senior Jessica Hennig (Springfield, Ill.) who set a school record in the 400-meter hurdles. Hennig finished the race in 1:08.4 and earned a second-place finish. Her time now ranks second in the NACC.
Junior Andrea Kassees (Waukesha, Wis.) also had a strong day for the Falcons, competing in three events. Her best performance came in the discus throw where she posted a mark of 39.26 meters. Kassees is now ranked 41st nationally in the event and finished fourth at the meet. Her mark is also second best of all NACC athletes in 2014.
The Falcons had three athletes set new PRs in the hammer throw. Sophomores Alexandra Ezell (Kenosha, Wis.) and Karli Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior Mary Heinz (Clintonville, Wis.) all set new bests in the event, with Heinz breaking her previous best by three meters, recording 33.76 meters. Ezell and Heinz now rank fifth and seventh in the NACC in the event.
In other field events, freshman Delaney Verba (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded two new PRs in the shot put and discus throw. Verba landed a throw of 10.48 meters in the shot put, ranking eighth in the NACC now, and 27.46 meters in the discus throw. Sophomore Allison Justus (Arnold, Mo.) added a PR in the long jump (4.08 meters).
On the track the Falcons had a pair of PRs in the 5,000-meter run in senior Caitlyn Stern (Mequon, Wis.) and freshman Lindsey Fratzke (Winona, Minn.). Stern clocked in at 20:18.06 and now ranks seventh in the NACC, while Fratzke ran a 21:09.8. Sophomore Jessica Rice (Canton, Mich.) and freshman Kailtlin Dobson (Milwaukee, Wis.) each posted PRs in the 400-meter run.
CUW will be back in action Thursday when they take part in the Augie Invite. The meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
