Women's Tennis predicted to finish third in NAC Preseason Coaches' Poll
WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin's women's tennis team was selected to finish in third place in a vote by the head coaches of the Northern Athletics Conference, the league office announced Monday morning.
Wisconsin Lutheran College was tabbed to take the title after earning nine first-place votes and 141 points. The Warriors earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament after they won the NAC Tournament. Kaitlyn Strehlow, last year's NAC Player of the Year, returns for her senior year.
Edgewood College received two first-place votes and 129 points for second place, while CUW had one first-place vote and 126 points. The top three teams in the preseason poll shared last year's regular season title, as each program compiled a 10-1 record in NAC play.
The Falcons return six student-athletes from last year's team. Senior Julie Spransy (Brown Deer, Wis.) won a share of the NAC Doubles Title during last season's Individual Tournament. Along with seniors Callie Reinke(West Allis, Wis.) and Jaclyn Ward (Franklin, Wis.), CUW will be going for its sixth regular season title, at least a share, in the last seven years.
A single-round robin schedule is conducted this fall to determine the league's regular season champion and the qualifiers for the conference tournament in the spring. The six-team conference tournament will take place April 29-May 3, and the champion will receive the NAC's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Championship Tournament.
