Women's soccer scrimmage helps to answer questions and work out "kinks"
MEQUON, Wis.- Nobody gets credit for a victory when teams schedule an early season scrimmage, but younger players often "win" starting spots based on their performances in these controlled affairs. Such may have been the case when the CUW women's soccer squad got together with Cardinal Stritch last evening for some friendly competition.
"Kate Pawelkiewicz (freshman/ Oshkosh West) stood out for us defensively last evening," said Coach Ryan Middendorf. "We did not give up any goals, but we didn't put anything in the net either. We had excellent opportunities… hit the crossbar and missed two 1-1 chances against their keeper… so finishing will be a practice priority."
"At this point we are just trying out combinations and putting pieces together. We know what we will get from the Lauren Straehler's and Samantha Anacker(s), but our challenge is to mesh the veterans with the newcomers and build a solid TEAM with everyone understanding their roles."
The Falcons open their non-conference slate on Friday, August 31 at Lake Forest College.
