Ambrocio, Sanders win titles at Pete Wilson Wheaton Invitational
WHEATON, Ill. – Sean Ambrocio and Greg Sanders cruised to the top spot on the podium as they each won respective titles at the prestigious Pete Wilson Wheaton Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Ambrocio also placed eighth to help Concordia University Wisconsin's wrestling team finish in seventh as a team.
The title is the third of the season for Ambrocio (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas). He improved his season record to 21-5 after he earned two wins by major decision (10-2, 16-5) before technical fall (15-0) win in championship match at 125 pounds.
Sanders (sophomore, San Antonio, Texas) earned three wins by fall (2:01, 4:56 and 5:29) to take home his third trophy of the season in the 149 pound weight class. He improved his overall record to 27-2 after the tournament and closed his title run with two wins by fall.
Freshman Kevin Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) earned an eight place finish in the 133 pound weight class after going 3-3 on the day. His three victories were by fall (2:26), decision (6-5) and decision (9-6).
CUW earned 71.5 points during the tournament, good for seventh place, while NCAA Division II UW-Parkside won with 151.5 total points. The top NCAA Division III school was second place Messiah College which had 105.0 points.
Sophomore Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) picked up two wins by fall (1:44 and 6:33) in the 174 pound weight division to improve his overall record to 16-14 this season.
The Falcons return to the mat next Friday with a dual meet at Maranatha Baptist Bible College starting at 6 p.m.
