ROCK ISLAND, Wis. – Top-seeded Augustana College spoiled Concordia University Wisconsin's first trip to the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament on Friday evening with a 19-5 victory at Thorson-Luken Field.
CUW ends its season with a program-best seven victories, along with numerous team records. The season featured the Falcons highest scoring offense and best defense since the program started three seasons ago.
AC (15-3) jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead, increased its advantage to 11-2 at halftime and never looked back. The Vikings outshot the Falcons by a 41-14 margin, won 17-of-25 draw controls and held a 31-20 lead in ground balls.
The Vikings won the MWLC regular season outright with an undefeated record and was led by Kaylee Nolan who tallied five goals in the game. Kelly Stelzer and Christina Letmanski added four and three goals, respectively. Emily Handrahan recorded five points – two goals, three assists.
Sophomore Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) scored three goals and and won four draw control for the fourth-seeded Falcons. She also recorded career-bests with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. Sophomore Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) scored a goal and assisted on another, while sophomore Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) and freshman Olivia Vogel (Andover, Minn.) each had an assist.
Senior Sam Meuwissen (Chanhassen, Minn.) scored a goal, picked up four ground balls and won three draw controls in her final game as a Falcon. The midfielder/attacker ended her career second all-time with 50 points (41 goals, nine assists).
