MEQUON, Wis. - Getting ready for only the second season in school history, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's lacrosse team will kick off their campaign this Wednesday, when they'll host Otterbein University at Fitting Field.
The game is set to begin at 4 p.m., and will feature live stats for any fans unable to attend.
The Falcons are still in search of the program's first victory after going winless in 12 games last season.
Head coach Emily Mason is ready to get the 2012 season underway, and expects her team to be competitive in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.
"I'm really excited about this season," Mason said. "We have improved our skill level from last year and have some strong freshmen joining our two hard-working returnees."
Junior Erin Lau (Cary, Ill.) and senior Marie Melton (Prior Lake, Minn.) are the only players back from a year ago when Lau finished second on the team with five goals.
"Our senior captain Marie Melton was a huge contributor for us last year and I expect more great things from her this year," Mason said. "...and Erin Lau's aggressive, never-give-up attitude really drives the team and helps us work harder."
CUW's roster will feature 11 freshmen, led by Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.), who earned all-state honors at Stillwater High and was invited to try out for the U-19 USA National Team.
"Our freshmen are optimistic and enthusiastic about playing our first games, as well as heading into some good competition over spring break," Mason added.
Following the home opener against Otterbein on Wednesday, the team will travel to Hilton Head, S.C. next week for a pair of games against Eastern Connecticut State and Clarkson (NY).
