Early deficit too much to overcome for Women's Hockey against Pointers
MEQUON, Wis. – UW-Stevens Point fired on all cylinders during Saturday's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association matchup against Concordia University Wisconsin. The Falcons allowed two goals in the first frame en route to a 5-2 Pointers victory at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
UW-SP (5-1-0, 4-0-0 NCHA) amassed 43 shots on goal while converting on only 1-of-4 power-play opportunities against the Falcons (0-5-1, 0-4-1 NCHA). Cassandra Salmen notched the first two goals while Michelle Lunneborg, Allie Tanzer and Nikki Kloes also added goals for the Pointers. Tanzer and Kloes recorded a goal in each game of the series against the Pointers.
After facing a 3-0 deficit midway through the second stanza, the Falcons initiated an aggressive attack with their backs against the wall. Freshmen Alexis Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and freshman Chelsea Regan (Oakdale, Minn.) each scored a goal for CUW, trimming the Pointers lead 3-2 and shifting the momentum towards CUW entering the 20 minutes.
The Pointers took no time adding to their lead, scoring a mere 20 seconds in to the third period. A final goal was scored by UW-SP in the final minute of play.
Up next for the Falcons is the final matchup of the three-game home stand against Lake Forest College on Tuesday at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Game time has been set for 7 p.m.
