Puch leads Women's Golf to second place finish at Benedictine Spring Invite

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – Nina Puch placed fourth individually and Concordia University Wisconsin took second place at the Benedictine University Spring Invite at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club on Sunday. The tournament was the first of the spring for the Falcons.

Puch (freshman, Des Plaines, Ill.) carded a tournament-tying low round of 8-over-par 79 on Saturday before shooting a 94 on Sunday to fall into fourth place as an individual. She led the Falcons who shot a 371-378 for a 749 total, which was 77 shots back of the Invite winner North Central College. The Cardinals had the top three golfers.

"I am really proud with how we hit the ball, considering we hadn't played golf until Friday," head coach Jim Ingman said. "Everyone is looking forward to working on their short game this week and gaining some consistency. Overall, it was a great result considering the spring weather and most teams had played in tournaments yet."

Freshman Emily Stephenson (Ashland, Wis.) recorded a top-10 finish after firing a 98-92 (190 total). Her six-shot improvement was the best on the team. Freshman Lexi Westphal (Brownsville, Ill.) was one shot back of her teammate after shooting a 96-95 (191 total).

Freshman Madalyn Joannes (Wauwatosa, Wis.) took 16th place with a 100-97 (197 total) and freshman Emmy Dill (Bristol, Wis.) tied for 17th after carding a 98-104 (202 total).

Puch and Stephenson ended the tournament at 6-over on par 3s, while Puch was 2-over on par 5s. Stephenson led the Falcons with 11 pars and Puch carded a tournament-tying-best three birdies.

CUW will have a few days off from competition before playing five-consecutive days, beginning on Thursday at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Triangular at Whitnall Golf Course.
