Perkins, Schuh toss shutouts as Softball sweeps MSOE in NACC twinbill

MILWAUKEE – Senior Jamie Schuh and sophomore Melissa Perkins each tossed three-hit shutouts as the Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team swept MSOE in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday. The Falcons won the opener 7-0 and took the second game 4-0 as they moved to 4-0 in conference play.

Perkins (Park Forest, Ill.) began the day by baffling the Raiders hitters with an 84-pitch complete game performance. The right-hander struck out two and walked just one batter as she faced 24 hitters in the game, three over the minimum.

Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) followed that performance with eight strikeouts compared to just one walk. She finished with exactly 100 pitches, 69 of them being strikes and faced just five over the minimum.

The Falcons had several strong offensive performances led by senior Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and freshman Alexis Holsten (Oshkosh, Wis.). Both players recorded two hits in each game, Giesseman hitting a triple in game two and driving in one in both contests.

In the first game CUW had six players tally two hits, finishing the game with 13. Besides Giesseman and Holsten, senior Alyssa Robison (Roselle, Ill.) and freshmen Jennifer Reicher (Kewaskum, Wis.), Carly Sobrilsky (Brookfield, Wis.) and Sophia Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) all totaled two hits. Kiela recorded a double, while Sobrilsky and junior Jessica Liszka (Lindenhurst, Ill.) each drove in a pair of runs.

In the second game CUW came out swinging with two runs in the first inning, including an RBI triple from Giesseman. Robison added an RBI single in the frame, which would produce the Falcons only two runs until the top of the sixth inning. Reicher added a double in game two.

Sara McConnell finished with two hits for MSOE in game one, while Lauren Boyle recorded a hit in each game. McConnell was also the starting pitcher in game one, lasting 5.2 innings. Shannon Curtis finished the first game and threw the entire second game for the Raiders.

CUW (10-8, 4-0 NACC) will visit former conference foe Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one in Watertown, Wis. is set for 3:00 p.m.
