AURORA, Ill. – Senior Robert Meilbeck earned All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference honors with his 12th-place finish at the conference championships Saturday. His finish helped the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Cross Country team earn a fourth-place finish.
Meilbeck used a 26-second PR to earn the All-Conference accolades, running a 26:29.5. The top 15 finishers earn All-Conference honors. Meilbeck may have been the only Falcon to earn the all-league honors Saturday, but he wasn't the only runner to PR as several CUW runners turned in top performances.
Junior Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) was the second CUW runner to cross the finish line, running a PR time of 26:57.8. He finished 19th and narrowly missed out on all-league honors. Freshman Tyler Neuwirth (Mukwonago, Wis.) was the next Falcon to finish, running a 41-second PR of 27:04.6.
Sophomore Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) and junior Johann Hinck (Cedarburg, Wis.) were the fourth and fifth Falcons Saturday. Taylor clocked in at 27:20.3, while Hinck ran a PR time of 27:22.8 to round out the CUW scoring lineup.
A few other runners came in with impressive PRs Saturday, including junior Adam Fell (Mundelein, Ill.). Fell is an athlete who has battled injury all season long yet still came in with a three-second PR after posting a time of 27:54.8. Senior Christopher Biesboer (Elmhurst, Ill.) and sophomore Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) also came in with big PRs Saturday. Ziemmann recorded a time of 27:37.8, while Biesboer was in just after with a time of 27:41.7.
MSOE edged out Aurora University for the team title, with the Raiders finishing with 30 points. MSOE had five runners in the top 10. Wisconsin Lutheran's Chase Robles was the top runner Saturday, earning NACC Runner of the Year honors with a new meet record.
CUW will take its top seven runners to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in two weeks. The Falcons will compete at the meet hosted by UW-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Course.
