FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – Junior Andrew Coop returned to his home state and in doing so was the top runner for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Cross Country team as they competed in the 26-team Roy Griak Invitational Saturday.
Coop (Mora, Minn.) placed 56th in the 296-runner field as he crossed the finish line in a time of 27:50.8. He was followed by sophomore Alex Rosenau (Van Dyne, Wis. - pictured) who came in at 28:48.9. Third in line for the Falcons was sophomore Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) as he ran a29:36.9 in the 8K race.
Junior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) came in less than a second after Bernau as he clocked in at 29:37.8, while sophomore Johann Hinck (Cedarburg, Wis.) rounded out the scoring lineup with a time of 29:47.8.
Freshman Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) was next in line for CUW, finishing just four seconds off his PR time by running a 30:08.9. Junior Christopher Biesboer (Elmhurst, Ill.) ran a 30:13.1 and was followed closely by freshman Aaron Reseburg (Sheboygan, Wis.) who finished in 30:15.9. Also running on Saturday was senior Jordan Guenther (West Bend, Wis.), sophomore Micah Fritz (Roseville, Minn.) and freshmen Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) and Damon Nick (Slinger, Wis.).
A pair of UW schools finished as the top two as UW-Eau Claire won the meet with 69 points, while UW-Oshkosh was next with 76 points. Matt Berens of Bethel College ran a 25:45.4, topping all individuals.
CUW will have next weekend off before competing in a meet hosted by UW-Platteville on October 12. That will be the last time the Falcons are in action before championship season begins, starting with the Wisconsin Private College Championships, hosted by CUW, on October 19.
