Faber, Nick lead Men's Track & Field at Eagle Invite
LISLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field continued its outdoor season with a sixth-place finish at the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Benedictine University, this past weekend.
Sophomore Damon Nick (Slinger, Wis.) and junior Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) had outstanding days in leading the Falcons. Faber set a new school record in the hammer throw (46.07 meters) and placed fifth in the event. He now ranks second in the conference in the event. Faber also bested his previous PR in the javelin throw by two meters, recording 41.33 meters on Saturday.
Nick came away with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, setting a new PR in the process with a time of 15.11. His time now ranks 41st nationally and second of all NACC athletes this season.
The Falcons had several other athletes earn PRs at the event, including sophomore Trent Pachecho (Iron Mountain, Mich.) who had three. Pachecho leaped 11.96 meters in the triple jump, now seventh best in the NACC and added PRs in the long jump (5.53 meters) and the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) also had three PRs, including the long jump (6.41 meters) where he now ranks second in the NACC. Pham also had a five-meter PR in the javelin throw and a new best in the 200-meter dash.
Freshman Shannon Smith (Brandon, Fla.) moved up the NACC leaderboards in the 100-meter dash as he now ranks fourth in that event. Another freshman, Jesse Smrcka (New Boston, Mich.) ranks seventh in the NACC in the discus as he posted a PR with a throw of 35.73 meters.
Junior Dylan Krivoshein (Cedarburg, Wis.) had a strong showing in the javelin throw by breaking his previous PR by four meters. Krivoshein, who now ranks fourth in the NACC in the event, landed a throw of 44.01 meters, placing seventh in the event. Sophomore Seth Donovan (Caledonia, Wis.) added a 3.5-meter PR in the discus throw and ran the second-fastest NACC time this season in the 200-meter dash.
The Falcons distance runners had a couple of PRs set on Saturday, including freshman Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) in the 1,500-meter run (4:30.8). Also running a new best in that race was freshman Aaron Reseburg (Sheboygan, Wis.). Junior Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.) added a sixth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run for CUW.
Other PRs for the Falcons came from freshmen Logan Hass (Manawa, Wis.) and Tafari Young (Orlando, Fla.) in the long jump (5.94 and 4.54 meters) and sophomore Jacob Schwark (Fraser, Mich.) in the javelin (36.57 meters).
CUW will next compete at the Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College on Friday. The meet is set to begin at noon.
