Men's Track & Field finishes third at Carroll meet
WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team had several strong performances en route to a third-place finish at the Carroll University Invite on Saturday.
The Falcons totaled 82 points, finishing behind only meet champion St. Norbert College and runner-up MSOE. CUW was the second-highest finishing NACC schools as six teams from the league competed.
The Falcons relay teams were strong with a win in the 4x400-meter relay and a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Senior Sean Pawlak (Germantown, Wis.) was on both of the relay teams and was joined by sophomore Damon Nick (Slinger, Wis.), freshman Logan Hass (Manawa, Wis.) and sophomore Mike Prue (Kenosha, Wis.) on the winning 4X400 squad. Joining Pawlak in the other relay was sophomore Nick Simich (Bartlett, Ill.), sophomore Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman Shannon Smith (Brandon, Fla.).
Nick wasn't finished on the day as he added a PR and a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Nick's time of 15.38 in the preliminaries was his personal best in the event.
A pair of Falcons earned three PRs in sophomores Seth Donovan (Caledonia, Wis.) and Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.). Donovan earned his in the discus throw (29.1 meters) as well as the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.38 and 22.85, respectively. He placed sixth and eighth in the two running events.
Pacheco also had a PR in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.04. He then leaped 5.2 meters for a personal best in the long jump and recorded a throw of 41.81 meters in the javelin to complete his hat trick of bests. Smith and Tafari Young (Orlando, Fla.) each set PRs in the long jump as well with leaps of 5.58 and 4.53 meters, respectively.
For the second straight week freshman Jesse Smrcka (New Boston, Mich.) set PRs in both the shot put and discus throws. Smrcka recorded 11.6 meters in the shot put, while marking 35.73 meters in the discus. Sophomore Jake Kroll (Germantown, Wis.) added a PR in the discus (33.04).
Two distance runners each set two PRs at the meet in juniors Dayton Lueck (West Allis, Wis.) and Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.). Coop ran to a pair of third-place finishes in the 1,500-meter run and the 5K with times of 4:17.4 and 16:06.1. Lueck had PRs in the same events with times of 4:20.8 and 17:03.2 and finished in the top eight of each. Junior Robert Meilbeck (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) added a 15-second PR in the 10K for the Falcons.
The Falcons will return to competition next weekend at the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Benedictine University. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
