Men's Track & Field finishes fifth at Tadd Metzger Invitational

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team traveled to Carthage College Friday for the Tadd Metzger Invitational. The Falcons performed well for their second meet of the season gaining several strong performances on both the track and in field events.

CUW finished in fifth place at the meet out of nine teams. The Falcons were one two Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schools competing, finishing ahead of Edgewood College. CUW scored 44 points, while meet champion Carthage totaled 202.

Junior Andrew Faber (Germantown, Wis.) had a great showing in helping lead the Falcons, starting off with a throw of 13.61 meters in the shot put, almost a full meter PR. Faber's throw was good for a sixth-place finish in the event. The momentum carried Faber through the weight throw where he landed another PR throw of 15.53 meters for third place and a new school record. In other field events, sophomore Bathong Pham (Milwaukee, Wis.) hit a PR in the pole vault, clearing 3.55 meters for eighth place. Junior Josh Lehr (Appleton, Wis.) also competed in the pole vault and finished in sixth place.

On the track, sophomore Mike Prue (Kenosha, Wis. - pictured) ran his first 600-meter race with a time of 1:24.85 for a fifth-place finish and a new school record. Senior Martin Hinze (Bourbonnais, Ill.) recorded two top-three finishes for CUW. He beat his PR from the last meet in the mile with a time of 4:22.53, good for third place, while also running to a first-place finish in the 5000. Junior Andrew Coop (Mora, Minn.) ran a PR in the 3,000-meter run, with a 9:07.96, a time that was 20 seconds faster than his previous best.

Also on the track sophomore Damon Nick (Slinger, Wis.) finished third in the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.20, a new PR. In the sprints, junior Dylan Krivoshein (Cedarburg, Wis.) and sophomore Nick Simich (Bartlett, Ill.) recorded seventh and eighth-place finishes in the 55-meter dash. Other strong performances for the Falcons included PRs by freshman Stephen Bernau (Courtland, Minn.) in the mile (4:46.8), sophomore Seth Donovan (Caledonia, Wis.) in the 200-meter dash (23.82), freshman Logan Hass (Manawa, Wis.) in the 200 & 400 (24.95 & 54.73), sophomore Trent Pacheco (Iron Mountain, Mich.) in the 400 (55.62), freshman Aaron Reseburg (Sheboygan, Wis.) in the mile and 3000 (5:17.6 & 10:10.32), freshman Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.) in the 3000 (10:15.03), and freshman Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) in the mile (4:48.0).

CUW will return to action next weekend, competing at the Keck Invitational on Saturday. The meet will be hosted by Illinois Wesleyan and is scheduled to begin 11:00 a.m.
