Pawlak competes at NCAA Outdoor National Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior hurdler Alex Pawlak represented the Concordia University Wisconsin Track & Field teams on the national stage over the weekend, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, which took place at Claremont McKenna College's Burns Stadium.

Pawlak, who was named Northern Athletics Conference Track Athlete of the Meet for the outdoor season, ran in the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday before taking part in the 110-meter hurdles on Friday.

Despite failing to qualify for the finals in either event, Pawlak (Colgate, Wis.) ran well in both races. After ranking 18th nationally in the 400, he moved up to 15th with a preliminary time of 54.45 seconds, before running the 110 in 15.04 seconds, which was good for 18th place.

Kevin Cunningham (McMurray University) won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.13 seconds, while Justin Johnson of St. Norbert College took home first place honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.79 seconds. Johnson's time set a NCAA Division III outdoor record, besting Shannon Flowers mark set in 1993.

This weekend capped off a fantastic collegiate career for Pawlak, who holds the CUW outdoor record in the 400-meter hurdles (53.29), along with setting indoor records in the 110-meter hurdles (14.61), 55-meter hurdles (7.74) and 60-meter hurdles (8.35). He was also a member of the 4x200-meter indoor relay team that set a school record with a time of 1:31.01 in February.
