Men's Tennis falls to St. Thomas in spring trip opener

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team began its spring trip with a 6-3 setback against the University of St. Thomas. CUW won two singles matches and one in doubles play.

Senior Russell Johnson (Monticello, Wis.) was the only Falcon to go 2-0 as he won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Johnson downed Brady Radermacher 7-6 (10-4), 6-4 in singles play and then partnered with senior Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.) in doubles play for an 8-5 win.

Also winning for the Falcons on Monday was senior Garrett Wells (Aurora, Ill.). Wells picked up a 7-6 (10-3), 6-1 victory over Grant Johnson at No. 5 singles.

St. Thomas would win the remaining four singles matches and two doubles matches. The four singles contests were in straight sets as the Tommies improved to 7-2.

CUW (1-7) will take to the courts again tomorrow against Colby College. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. CST.
