Box Score: SJU 4, CUW 3
Trailing 3-0 at the break, Concordia University Wisconsin's men's soccer team staged a spirited second half rally before falling, 4-3, to St. John's University (MN) on Saturday afternoon at Fitting Field.
The Johnnies (2-0) were actually outshot by CUW in a frustrating first half, but got a goal in the first 100 ticks of the contest and then added another pair in the closing minutes to gain the huge cushion.
The Falcons got their intial tally on sophomore Alberto Valle's (Milwaukee, Wis.) score off junior Kyle Sytsma's (Antioch, Ill.) assist at 58:03. CUW roared back into contention at 3-2 when Sytsma fed freshman Zach Fohr (Plymouth, Wis.) 13 minutes later.
With the Falcons (1-1) pressing forward, Andrew Johnson found the back of the net on a breakaway for St. John's to make it 4-2. Talented Michael Coburn, who scored the first two goals for the Johnnies, also assited on the third and fourth visitor scores.
Senior Victor Mendoza's (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) penalty kick at 76:59 cut the margin to 4-3, but Head Coach Tom Saleska's squad could not get the equalizer despite owning a 13-4 corner kick and 17-15 shot advantage.
