Box Score: CUW 2, SNC 0
MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team was clicking on all cylinders in their season-opening victory over St. Norbert College, 2-0, Thursday night at Fitting Field.
The Falcons' offense was the story of the victory piling on 24 shots - 10 on goal - with 15 coming in the opening 45 minutes. CUW tagged the back of the net early in the third minute off a Victor Mendoza (senior, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) strike from 20 yards out, which was assisted by junior Zach Lemler (West Bend, Wis.) and senior Enrique Alvarado (Elgin, Ill).
CUW (1-0) again found the back of the net in the 18th minute of the contest after junior Kyle Sytsma (Antioch, Ill.) tallied a goal off a beautiful corner kick from senior Jacob Streicher (West Allis, Wis.).
Senior Daniel Boklewski made his first career start and finished with one save. He directed the defense with leadership and the majority of the contest saw the Knights fighting to get the ball across midfield.
Overall, the Falcons finished with 10 corner kicks to the Knights (0-1) one, tallying once on Sytsma's goal.
CUW will be back in action on Saturday, at 4:30 p.m. when it hosts St. John's University (Minn.) at Fitting Field. The Falcons will wrap up their three-match home stand on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. versus UW-Superior.
