MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team has completed three practices to this point, with a fourth to come Saturday afternoon. With five returning all-conference performers and a multitude of freshman competing, the effort over the first two days of practice has been strong.
CUW is coming off a 12-6-3 record and a 7-2-2 Northern Athletics Conference record. It was the 17th time in head coach Tom Saleska's career at the helm of the program that his team earned double-digit victories.
In goal, senior Samuel Ische (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) returns for his second season as the full-time starter. Saleska's mantra has always been defense and with the return of four starters - senior Bryan Samuel (Brookfield, Wis.), junior Jason Rogers (Glendale, Wis.), junior Jacob Streicher (West Allis, Wis.), and sophomore Jacob Pope (Muskego, Wis.) - the Falcons are once again looking to shutdown opponents.
The 2011 season begins with a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 1, as CUW plays host to St. Norbert College at 5 p.m. The contest is the second part of a season-opening doubleheader with the women's team who hosts UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m.
