Dahms, Wladyka score two goals; Men's Lacrosse falls at Ohio Wesleyan

DELWARE, Ohio – Concordia University Wisconsin fell behind early at Ohio Wesleyan University and wasn't able to regroup as it fell 13-6 in a non-conference men's lacrosse game. The game was the second in as many days for the Falcons to begin the 2013 season.

OWU scored early and often on Saturday afternoon at Selby Stadium, as it outshot CUW by a 52-23 margin and won 16-of-22 faceoffs in the win. The Battling Bishops (2-0) also scored two man-up goals.

Juniors Danny Dahms (Calgary, Alberta) and Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) paced CUW with two goals apiece as it found itself down 7-3 at halftime and 12-4 after three periods of play. Sophomore Derek Brueske (Hopkins, Minn.) assisted on a pair of goals for the Falcons.

Casey Helms led the charge for the Battling Bishops with a career-high four goals and an assist. He scored twice in the first and third periods. Pat Bassett and Spencer Schnell also found the back of the net twice.

After the Falcons (1-1) found themselves down 2-0 midway through the opening quarter, they answered with a Justin Krause (junior, Hartland, Wis.) and Wladyka scores to get within 3-2. OWU responded and increased its lead back to 6-2 with less than seven minutes to play in the second quarter after Schnell scored the team's first man-up goal.

Freshman Marino Best (Nanaimo, British Columbia) tallied a goal in the second period for the Falcons, but George Rice scored to give the Battling Bishops a 7-3 halftime lead.

Wladyka found the twine in the third period for CUW's only score and as its offense stalled, which gave OWU a chance to build a comfortable 12-4 lead after 45 minutes of action.

Dahms scored twice, including a man-up score, in the fourth quarter. CUW finished the contest with 18-of-20 successful clears.

The Falcons return to action on Mar. 1 at Denison University for a non-conference tilt beginning at 6 p.m. CDT.
