NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin continues to rise up the ranks of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference, as the Falcons were selected to finish in second place in the MLC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced Monday.
Coaches predicted Aurora University would win the league after receiving 100 total points and all 10 first-place votes. The Falcons earned 82 points for second place and Carthage College had 76 points in third place.
CUW finished last season with a 9-7 overall record and a 5-4 league record, both improvements from its first and second season. The Falcons have now won 17 games in their first two seasons and eight games in the MLC.
The Falcons have gone from ninth in the MLC poll in 2011 to sixth in 2012, to second in the 2013 MLC Preseason Coaches' Polls.
The College of Mount St. Joseph was selected fourth with 74 points, while Augustana College received 73 points to finish in fifth. Hanover College was chosen to finish seventh with 47 points.
MLC newcomers Benedictine University (32 points), Elmhurst College (28 points) and Defiance College (24 points) finished eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. All three teams are entering their inaugural season. MSOE completed the poll in 11th place with 15 points.
