Falcons improve but still come up short

If CUW (0-5) had been able to avoid the first minute of the first two periods Saturday, the improving Falcons might have been in position to get their first win.

Lawrence (3-0-0, 2-0-0 MCHA) got their initial score just 45 seconds into the match and added a second with 5:06 left in the opening period to build an early 2-0 cushion.

The host Vikings struck again in the opening ticks of the second period before Concordia got on the board midway through that session on a goal by Brad Lukasz.

The upstart Falcons then cut their deficit to a single tally with freshman Greg Douglas' first career goal at 9:36 of the third period to make things exciting, but undefeated Lawrence got some breathing room on a goal in the final five minutes to salt the game away.

Michael Wyenn allowed the first three LU goals and took the loss.
