Wengel leads Men’s Golf to fourth place finish at CUW Elite-8 Invite

MEQUON, Wis. - Jon Wengel finished in a tie for third to lead the Concordia University Wisconsin men's golf team to a fourth place finish on Thursday at the CUW Elite-8 Invite during rainy and blustery conditions at North Shore Country Club.

Wengel (junior, Waubeka, Wis.) carded 13 pars and one birdie en route to his best scoring round of the season. It was also his first top-5 finish of the year. Senior Jon Waters (Fredonia, Wis.) recorded his first top-10 finish of the season with a 7-over par 79 at the 6,969-yard, par-72 course.

CUW shot 327 during the 18-hole competition to earn its highest-tying finish of the season. Carthage College carded a low 299 to claim the team title, which was 16 strokes better than second place.

Donnie Langland (Carthage) earned individual medalist honors after firing a 3-under 69, including four birdies and one eagle. Brad Hyland (Carthage) took second place individually with an even-par 72.

The Falcons entered its entire team, all 11 golfers, into the Invite and sophomore Shay Klitzke (Annandale, Minn.) carded an 86 to lead the second group of CUW golfers. It was his best finish of the season by three strokes.

CUW returns to the links on Sunday, Oct. 2, for the two-day MSOE Invitational at Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.
