Men’s Golf finishes Ninth at WLC Invitational
HARTFORD, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's golf team moved up one spot to finish in ninth place at the WLC Invitational at Washington County Golf Course on Monday afternoon.
According to Falcon head coach Ray Engelking the Falcons were hampered by a Monday draw which saw them forced to play in heavy "sideways" rain and strong winds on Monday afternoon after the top teams had completed play in significantly better conditions earlier in the day.
CUW carded a 173 nine-hole total on Sunday morning before inclement weather shortened play. Its 335 score on Monday moved the Falcons up one spot to finish with a 508 team score (76-over par). Carthage College earned the team title with a 448, 16-over par, team score.
Senior Jon Waters (Fredonia, Wis.) paced the Falcons with a 15-over par 123 total to finish in a tie for 20th place. Junior Jon Wengel (Waubeka, Wis.) finished two strokes back with a 17-over par 125 total, good for a 26th place tie.
Donnie Langland (Carthage) won individual medalist honors after stroking a 109 total to finish at 1-over par. Carthage took the top 3 spots individually.
CUW's Eric Hertel (junior, Franklin, Wis.) finished with a tie for 34th after carding a 128 total. Senior Jesse Huff (Plantation, Fla.) recorded a 132 total to finish in a tie for 46th, while junior Ben Hagenbach (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) rounded out the lineup with a 141 total (61st).
