Box Score: CUW 3, CC 20
KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Falcons struck first on a 32-yard field goal by freshman David Gonzalez (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) after a trio of punt exchanges, but turnovers from that point on were the key to a 20-3 Carthage win that dropped CUW to 0-3 on the season.
CUW's third possession began just short of midfield and featured junior Patrick Czerwiec's (Norridge, Ill.) 34-yard completion to sophomore Cody Johnson (Brookfield, Wis.) that got head coach Greg Etter's team into scoring position.
The hosts came roaring back with their only scoring march of the first half. TJ Trepanier amassed a total of 46 yards on consecutive rushes and then quarterback Pete Djurickovic launched an 18-yard scoring strike to Mike Koenamen. The extra point made it 7-3 hosts and it stayed that way until halftime.
After the break the Falcons' defense remained relatively stout, but the hosts took over twice deep in CUW territory after interceptions. The first pick led to a field goal that spread the separation to 10-3 and the third resulted in a touchdown drive that created the eventual 20-3 deficit.
Matt Upson led the "bend but don't break" Concordia defense with 9 solo tackles. James Saunders hauled in 8 Czerwiec aerials for 32 total yards.
The Red Men (3-0) owned the stats column, pounding out 319 yards on the ground while controlling the line of scrimmage. CUW got 167 of their 189 yards via the airways.
Concordia football teams have lost 14 consecutive non-conference games dating back to 2007. The Falcons will get a bye next weekend and then enthusiastically swing into NAC conference action via a trip to Rockford (0-3) on October 1st.
