”Out of the frying pan...”
Mequon, Wis.
-- Nobody would deny that CUW traditionally plays a STRONG non
conference football schedule. The Falcons lost narrowly to Augsburg
at home before being soundly defeated by #6 Bethel last
weekend.
Now Greg Etter's team heads "into the fire" to battle
a strong Carthage contingent on the road Saturday at 1p.m. at Art
Keller Field in Kenosha.
Carthage (2-0), blanked Lakeland (0-2) 38-0 last
Saturday night after bolting to a 31-0 cushion by
halftime. The Red Men rolled up 293 yards of offense,
using 5 different quarterbacks in the process.
Senior wide receiver Mike
Koeneman caught three passes for 75
yards to spearhead the Carthage offense.
Red Men outside linebacker Brandon
Mecozzi collected a team-leading eight tackles
(6 solo, 2 assisted), including a tackle-for-loss as the Carthage
defense dominated for a second consecutive week. Lakeland
managed a miniscule 97 total yards of offense, 52 of those in the
air.
The Falcons will look for improved
offense after being held in check by Bethel. Junior quarterback
Patrick Czerwiec (Norridge, Ill.) has completed 19 of 40 aerials
for 157 yards in two games but his longest completion has been for
just 21 yards. A trio of CUW rushers have averaged only 2.7 yards
per carry.
Bobby May's (senior, Palm Beach, Fla.)
punting (37.3 average with excellent hang time) has been
encouraging while senior Zac Wielepski (Oak Creek, Wis.) and junior
Brandon Sanko (Spring Grove, Ill.) continue to lead the Concordia
tackle charts.
